Specific and local admission requirements

Some higher educational programmes have local admission requirements. These are requirements that apply beyond the specific admission requirements of the program.

Local admission requirements are usually a specific grade point average in the upper secondary school examination or specific grades in selected subjects or in a combination of subjects.

There may also be requirements for certain levels in specific upper secondary subjects. Please note: Local entry requirements are not the same as the minimum grade point average for admission.

You cannot be certain about admission, even though your grade point average is higher than the local admission requirement. You must meet both the specific and the local admission requirements in order to apply for admission to the programme.

You can try to raise your grade by taking supplementary courses

If the admission requirement is a minimum grade in a particular secondary school subject, and you do not meet the requirement, you have the opportunity to try to raise the grade by taking supplementary courses.

Remember to check the website of the educational institution for when the supplementary courses must be completed. You can not raise the grade point average from your qualifying exam.

If the local admission requirement is a minimum average for your secondary school exam, and you do not meet this requirement, you can not be admitted to the programme.

Excemption for the local admission requirements

In very specific situations, the place of education may grant excemption for the local admission requirements. You can investigate this at the educational institution's website.
